PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical strength, etc., of an alpha-olefin dimerization catalyst by depositing specified amts. of Na and K on a compression-molded granular carrier having a specified content of carbon, consisting of the anhydrous potassium carbonate having a specified grain diameter and having a specified pore volume ratio and compressive strength. CONSTITUTION:Carbon is added by 0.6-3wt.% (based on anhydrous potassium carbonate) to the anhydrous potassium carbonate having 150-600mum average grain diameter, contg. 1-15wt.% powder having <100mum grain diameter and 1-20wt.% powder having >600mum grain diameter and having 0.50-0.70g/ml bulk density, and sufficiently mixed. The powder is compression-molded by a compression-molding machine to obtain a compression-molded carrier having 22-38% pore volume ratio and 1.5-15kg/cm<2>G compressive strength. An alkali metal consisting of 20-90g atom% Na and 80-10g atom% K is deposited on the carrier to obtain the alpha-olefin dimerization catalyst. |
