PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new protein comprising a protein having a specific amino acid sequence and manifesting neurite elongating activities and useful as a neurite elongating agent, an antidement agent, a memory improving agent, a cerebral function activator, a restoring for nerve fibers, a learning improving agent, an emotional disorder improving agent, etc. SOLUTION: This new protein has a neurite elongating actions and comprises amino acids 1-676 represented by the formula or a new protein derivative in which one to several amino acids are substituted, deleted or added, has activities for neurite elongation and is useful as a neurite elongating agent, an antidement agent, a memory improving agent, a cerebral function activator, a restoring agent for nerve fibers, a neuronal activator, a learning improving agent, an emotional disorder improving agent, etc. The protein is obtained by separating an mRNA from a leg muscle of a 5-days-old chicken according to a conventional method preparing a cDNA library using the separated mRNA, then screening the library with a monoclonal antibody against a protein having the activities for neurite elongation, recovering a gene from a positive clone, integrating the recovered gene into a vector and expressing the gene in a host cell. |
