Safety valve for pipeline

A safety valve e.g. for a gas supply line, has the inlet and outlet stubs (1.1,1.2) at right angles and with a valve spindle (2.1) threaded through the knee of the valve housing. The inner end of the spindle carries a valve sealing element (2) while the outer end has a tensioned spring held in the tensioned setting by a plug (3) of a low melting point material. In the event of a fire the plug melts and the spring pulls the valve closed. The spindle is attached to a cap (5) on the outside of the valve through which the valve can be opened and closed manually.
