A dispersion-shifted optical fiber having a structure for effectively eliminating characteristic deteriorating factors in a manufacturing stage, and suitably used for wavelength multiplex transmission, wherein impurities to be added and an amount of addition thereof are regulated so as to reduce a viscosity difference between glass regions in the vicinities of interfaces, this structure effectively minimizing the occurrence of structural irregularity and defects of glass in the interface-neighboring portions.
