A hydraulically operated automotive clutch release system (1) consists of a piston-cylinder unit through which a ring-piston (8) slides. A release bearing (10) is fixed to one end of the piston and is operated by a spring (13), on which the clutch is supported. The spring has end windings (14a,14b) whose outer contours are different from the outer contours of the intermediate windings (15).
