PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain the subject compound by suspending a halogen free copper catalyst precursor and Si in a solvent, then adding a hydrophobized silica and a surfactant of a specified siloxane thereto, activating the catalyst precursor and reacting the Si with an alcohol in the presence of the resultant catalyst. SOLUTION: Metalic Si is suspended in a thermally stable solvent in the presence of a mixture of a hydrophobized silica having 0.2-5 μm average grain diameter and 50-400 m<2> /g specific surface area with an organopolysiloxane such as a compound represented by formula I (R" is a 1-20C alkyl, phenyl, a cycloalkyl or the like; (a) is >0 and the reference boiling point of the organopolysiloxane manifests a higher value than the temperature of a directly synthesized slurry by >=10 deg.C) a cyclic compound represented by formula II or an oligomer or a polymer represented by formula III [(k), (r) and (s) have each the same definition as (a)] as a surface active agent and a halogen free copper catalyst precursor and the catalyst precursor is then activated to react the metallic Si with an alcohol represented by the formula ROH (R is a 1-6C alkyl) to thereby efficiently afford the objective trialkoxysilane represented by formula IV. |
