PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject polymer capable of giving a primer or coating having high adhesiveness to substrate, thermal stability and toughness, by contacting a polycarboxylated, and chlorinated polyolefin containing a specific amount of chlorine and having a specific acid value with a specific hydroxylamine. SOLUTION: This polymer 2,000-40,000 in number-average molecular weight composed of a 2-10C olefin is obtained by contacting (A) a polycarboxylated and chlorinated polyolefin 10-40 wt.% in chlorine content and 10-75 in acid value (mgKOH/g polymer) with (B) at least a stoichiometric amount (based on the above acid value) of a hydroxylamine having the structural formula (HO)3m (CR2 )3n -Y-NH2 (if (m) is 0, (n) is 0, if (m) is 1, (n) is 1, if (m) is 2, (n) is 2 or 3; R is H or the like; Y is a 1-20C hydrocarbon portion). |
