<p>FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: invention describes method of preparing halogenated alcohol of formula: CF<SB>3</SB>-CXCl-CH(OH)-CH=C(CH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>2</SB> wherein x is chlorine or bromine. Method comprises reacting compound of formula II: CF<SB>3</SB>-CHXCl with 3-methybut-2-ene-1-allem in the presence of strong base and in inert solvent. The resulting products are used as intermediate compounds for preparing insecticides. The resulting compounds are intermediate compounds for preparing valuable pesticides. Method makes it possible to prepare compounds of formula I with high yield and purity and also makes it possible to recover desired product, and to return unreacted or excessing compound of formula II to repeated reaction.
