The film area adjacent to the plasticized welding area is cooled simultaneously as the seam is being welded. The same pressure is applied to the welding seam or point and the immediately adjacent area during the combined welding and cooling stage. The welded seam thickness is equal to the total thickness of the films as no material is forced out of the seam during welding. Independent claims are also made for: a) welding equipment; b) a welded bag of polyethylene film.
