The invention relates to a simple, compact, stable lifting device for refuse containers. The drive motor of the lifting device is a hydraulic motor (4) arranged in a vertical direction, with a piston and two piston rods (6, 7). The two piston rods are located opposite each other. At the free end of each piston rod (6, 7) is a deflection roller (8, 9) for a cable or a chain (10), said deflection rollers (8, 9) being attached at the ends to the cylinder (5) of the hydraulic motor (4) at points (11 and 12).
