The method involves operating the radiation source (10) and the detector (12) in a spiral scanning path, to obtain a number of data sets. The data are processed using computed and stored image reconstruction processing data, which are computed for fewer than all phi planes, from a number of vertically orientated coaxial phi planes that subdivide a radon chamber, to determine numerical values for radon scanning values in all of the phi planes.
