Internal spindle brake

The internal brake shoes (6,7) are actuated by moving a brake lever (18), which is integral with one of the brake shoes (6), into the operating position. The inner contours of the brake shoes move around a cam surface machined into the spindle housing. The cam surface can be circular with flats (14,15), or may be oval.
