Mediastinoscope with diagnostic ultrasound

The mediastinoscope has a tube (6) to be inserted into the body part to be examined. An ultrasound transmitter and receiver (13) is arranged on the tube (6). The transmitter and receiver (13) are connected to an external control and processing device (5) providing visual indication of the tube tip location. The ultrasound transmitter and receiver is arranged inside the tube along the length of the part of the tube inserted into the body (2). The tube is divided at least over part of its length into two channels. One is an operating channel for biopsy instruments, the ultrasound transmitter and receiver (13) are in the other channel. The two channels preferably have an oval cross-section. An illumination device may also be provided.
