This publication describes a coil spring construction especially for a bed mattress that conforms well to the body or a seat and a backrest in a chair. The object of the coil spring construction is to afford similar functional and springing characteristics to a typical water mattress, which is characterized in that outward pressure produced by the body on the mattress surface creates around it an uplift varying as a function of the pressure, the purpose of which uplift is to raise the mattress surface upwards to a degree that depends on the outward pressure at the point in question. The coil spring construction described in this publication returns completely to its predetermined rest position after loading. According to the invention, load members 4 have been fitted sufficiently closely into stuffed and flexible surfaces 1, 2 and 3, so that ends on the shafts of these form an underlay for the surfaces 1 and 2. By means of a draw band 6, the said load members 4 transmit the force produced by the outwards pressure and acting on the load members in the opposite direction, that is to say as lifting force for these said load members 4, through which the draw band 6 in question passes. Thus the surface 1 of the coil spring construction rises most at those points where the outwards pressure acting on the surface 1 is least. The object of the construction is largely to maintain the predetermined volume in the rest position, even under load. <IMAGE>
