PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the degradation of color purity by removing the unwanted spectrum of a bright line component while facilitating the management of coat characteristics without increasing the number of parts. SOLUTION: On the filter surface of R reflection and G transmission dichroic mirror 8 in an optical image synthesizing system, the Rp color image light of (p) polarized light emitted from a liquid crystal panel 16 for R through luminance modulation is synthesized with the Gs color image light of (s) polarized light emitted from a liquid crystal panel 15 for G through luminance modulation but since the beam splitting characteristics of (p) and (s) polarized light mutually orthogonal in polarizing direction are different, the synthetic image in the wavelength area of these transmitted and reflected color beams does not include the wavelength area of unwanted spectrum (N) in the bright line component and that unwanted spectrum (N) is cut off. |
