The automatic wear adjustment strut (1) comprises a body (2) and a screw (31)/nutsystem. One end of the strut is supported on a friction lining segment and its other end has an axial bore in which the screw is slid. The other end of the screw/nut system is supported on the second brake segment (33). The screw/nut system is irreversible and the nut slides in the strut during an initial constant braking travel. Control of the screw/nut system becomes active beyond the braking travel so as to pivot the nut relative to the screw.
