The indicator comprises a horizontal panel (1) which is fixed e.g. by screws through holes (3) to a vertical support carrying a city or town map. The panel is equipped with an adjustable dial (4) marked with the cardinal points (6, 7, 8) of the compass and a pointer (5) showing the direction of geographical North, After the panel has been fitted, the dial is rotated and set with the aid of a compass so that the pointer indicates geographical north from the position of the map and is then locked in place. This allows anyone consulting the map, which is also marked to indicate the direction of geographical north, to know what direction to go in to reach a required destination.
