The glass plate has a thickness of at least 80 mm, and preferably between 100 mm and 300 mm, and one of the four longitudinal edges is cut at an angle of 30 to 60 degs., pref. 45 degs. so that at least 10 mm, and pref. 20 mm, remain from each cut side face. The remaining side faces and the newly cut face can be stuck with a flexible material extending 50 mm beyond the side face. The flexible material can be an alkali-resistant fabric or fleece.
