<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering system capable of diminishing gearing noises despite of its simple structure. SOLUTION: An elastic member 5b is arranged between a housing 1 and bearings 4a and 4b to press the tooth flanks of a worm 30a and a worm wheel 13 toward each other, in which state even zero backlash between the tooth flanks causes no contention. Such zero backlash, rather, diminishes or suppresses gearing noises. The modulus of elasticity of the elastic member 5b in the direction where the axes of the worm 30a and worm wheel 13 move to or away from each other is set larger than that in a direction other than that direction, with a result that the elastic member 5b supports the bearings 4a and 4b more reliably onto the housing 1 while ensuring an enough pressing force of another elastic member 5c.</p> |
