<p>This invention is a method, an apparatus transduce between mechanical and electrical signals within a middle ear (35) to improve hearing. An electromechanical transducer film, preferably polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) (110), is carried by a mount (100) secured to the middle ear (35). The film (110) is constrained by the mount (100) at a numbers of points (120, 130) or by the mount, and an auditory element. The invention includes substantially straight, bow-shaped, hoop-shaped, and bi-element transducer film embodiments. The film (110) transduces between mechanical vibrations of an auditory element (50), such as the malleus or stapes, and electrical signals for use with an electronics unit (150) of a partial middle ear implant (P-MEI) or total middle ear implantable (T-MEI) hearing aid.</p> |
