A carbonaceous anode material which has a true density of 1.65 to 1.85 g/cc, a content of hydrogen relative to carbon of 0.01 to 0.15 in terms of atomic ratio, a lattice plane spacing of the (002) plane of 3.45 to 3.55 Å, a crystallite thickness of 12.0 to 20.0 Å, and an S0 to S1 areal ratio of 0.4 to 2.0 in the X-ray scattering curve, wherein S1 represents the area of a portion surrounded by the baseline and the (002) diffraction line and S0 represents the area of a portion surrounded by the baseline and the X-ray scattering curve ranging from a point at a diffraction angle 2υ of 4° to the lower end of the (002) diffraction line, the baseline being a common tangential line defined by connecting minimum values on both sides of the (002) diffraction line to each other. The carbonaceous material is prepared by oxidizing a carbonaceous material having a η-resin content of 0.5 to 30 % by weight to prepare a carbonaceous precursor of the oxidation product having a content of oxygen relative to carbon of 0.01 to 0.2 in terms of atomic ratio, and sintering the precursor in an inert atmosphere.
|
