The handle has a fixed (3) and a pivoted (4) component, the latter being made with a claw (7) to engage with a catch on a fixed surround. The pivoted component is spring-loaded by a spring (6), and its pivot rod (5) is held in place by screws or pegs (10, 11) and stops. The screws and/or pegs are designed to prevent any transverse movement of the pivot rod, while the stops prevent it from moving lengthwise. The fixed component of the handle can be mounted on a sole plate of variable thickness to adjust it for various thicknesses of door.
