The gas bag module has a gas bag (9), a gas generator with outer casing (3) and a receiving container for the gas generator, to which the gas bag (9) is attached. The gas created by the gas generator flows into the receiving container and via outlet apertures (15) in the container into the gas bag. A filter unit (19) is fitted in the intermediate space (27) between the receiving container and the gas generator.
