There is provided a thermal transfer image-receiving sheet comprising: a substrate; a receptive layer; and a gloss control layer provided between the substrate and the receptive layer, the gloss control layer having a surface roughness of 0.07 to 2.00 mu m as measured according to ISO 4287/1. There is also provided a method of controlling the gloss of a thermal transfer image-receiving sheet comprising a substrate and a receptive layer, which comprises providing a gloss control layer between the substrate and the receptive layer and controlling the surface roughness of the gloss control layer, as measured according to ISO 4287/1, in the range of 0.07 to 2.00 mu m thereby to control the glossiness of the surface on the receptive layer side in the range of 10 to 95% as measured according to JIS Z8741 Method 4.
