PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time required for preparing the recording/reproducing operation at the time when the power is supplied and when a disk is inserted, by reading out the medium control information of the inner peripheral side first against the re-writable disk and sampling the data for adjusting the recording power from a drive test zone, and next, sampling the data from the drive test zone of the outer peripheral side and reading out the medium control information. SOLUTION: By a microprocessor 4, the medium control information of the inner peripheral side of the disk 13 is read in by an optical head circuit 10 and stored in a buffer memory 3. Next, test patterns are written in and read out against the drive test zones of the inner and outer peripheral sides, then the result is stored in a control memory 5, and by using this result, the optimum recording power is calculated and set to a recording circuit 8. Next, the medium control information of the outer peripheral side is read in and stored in the buffer memory 3, then from this information and the medium control information of the inner peripheral side, the required information is stored in the control memory 5. Thus, the futile movement of the optical head circuit 10 is eliminated, and the efficient starting process is attained. |
