LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

A liquid crystal display comprising a first reflection polarizer disposed on the viewed side of a liquid crystal cell and a second reflection polarizer on the opposite side. The liquid crystal cell holds a liquid crystal between two transparent substrates each provided with an electrode on the opposite inner surface thereof. A light absorbing plate is disposed on the side opposite to the viewed side of the second reflection polarizer. The first and second reflection polarizers are polarizing sheets reflecting a linearly polarized light having a plane of vibration perpendicular to the axis of easy transmission. A light absorbing plate or a back light also serving as a light absorbing plate is preferably disposed under the reflection polarizer, and an absorption polarizer plate or a light diffusion layer is preferably disposed on the viewed side of the first reflection polarizer.
