The computer has a central processing unit (101) for executing the computer programmes (160) under control of an operating system, with the working memory (103) coupled to a read-only memory (106), from which data is transferred after start-up of the computer. The data for an operating programme can be stored in the read-only memory under control of the central processing unit, when an instruction is entered by the operator via an input device (104).
