The hydraulic brake system includes a master cylinder and a venting pump and a servo pump for each brake circuit, to provide both. ABS and ASR brake control as well as enabling active braking for stability control. An intermediate fluid reservoir (70) is centrally positioned and provides a short path fluid supply to the servo pumps. Each servo braking pump (8) takes fluid directly from the output of the corresponding venting pump (4) as well as from the intermediate reservoir. The reservoir has a filter to remove impurities and has a capacity of at least 4.5 cc.
