Simple, cost-effective, almost quantitative removal of white phosphorus from mixture

Reduction of the content of white phosphorus (P) in mixtures, especially soils, slurries and water liquors, to 0.0005% comprises preparing a suspension containing /} 60 wt.% solids and waste liquor; adjusting to pH 5 with mineral acid; adding copper (Cu) salt in a P:Cu weight ratio of (1-100):1; heating to 40-50 deg C; and adding hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in such a way that a concentration of 15 g/l and temperature of 90 deg C are not exceeded. Addition of H2O2 is stopped when noticeable auto-decomposition of H2O2 occurs or the total amount of Cu added is detectable in solution.
