The invention relates to a method for vestigial sideband modulation of the carrier of a television transmitter with a video signal. The video signal is divided by means of filters into two signal parts which are in quadrature to each other. These signal parts are supplied to the I or Q entry of a quadrature modulator that is fed with the carrier frequency. The coefficients of the filters are so selected that the spectra of the two signal parts, when reunited in the quadrature modulator, produce the desired residual lateral band spectrum on the carrier frequency.
