FIELD: treating of substrates, such as paper or materials with repeated patterns. SUBSTANCE: method involves directing substrate fabric through apparatus for applying material to substrate. Apparatus has openings for discharging material onto fabric. These openings are movable along path intersecting fabric transportation path at an angle to it. Openings may be made in endless belt, whose lower branch defines lower surface of material receiving cavity. Pattern applied to fabric may be changed by regulating working parameters of apparatus. Precise controlled application of fluid to substrate may be performed by providing contact of fluid under pressure with openings in endless belt. EFFECT: increased efficiency, wider operational capabilities and improved quality of pattern on fabric. 31 cl, 6 dwg
