The payment charging unit has an entry control (7) with a delivery device for a parking ticket on which the entry time is stored. An exit control releases an exit barrier upon reception of the payment corresponding to the parking charge, calculated from the charge coding and the parking time obtained from the parking ticket. The latter is provided by a data carrier incorporating a semiconductor chip (5) for storing the charge coding which is read by the exit control for calculating the parking charge.
