<p>A system and apparatus for biologically treating water are disclosed herein. The method and apparatus employ a primary treatment cell (15) connected to a secondary treatment cell (33). Polluted water is introduced into the primary treatment cell via an inlet pipe (40) and a first end thereof. Treated water is withdrawn at a second end of the primary treatment cell via an exit pipe (43) and subsequently introduced into a secondary treatment cell via a dosing siphon (5). The primary treatment cell is filled with gravel (50) supporting aerobic bacteria designed to biologically decompose pollutants within the water. Wetland vegetation (37) is planted on the primary treatment cell (15) for absorbing pollutants from the water. The secondary treatment cell (33) contains gravel (86) supporting anaerobic bacteria for further decomposing pollutants within the water. Treated water is discharged from the secondary treatment cell (33) to the environment (25).</p> |
