The method involves placing the equipment (1) in a 'sleep' mode by preset automatic or manual interruption of the power supply connection for a period of time which is equal to or greater than the interval in which data is acquired by the sensitive measurement process. The power supply can be restored by a further switching command for a preset interval. The status of the measurement process is monitored constantly, independently of whether the electromedical equipment is active or not, to provide a supply interruption or connection signal. The status of the equipment can be monitored constantly to ensure that the measurement process is activated only in the case of a recognised supply interruption.
