A method and apparatus for subterranean thermal conditioning. The first step involves providing a tubular magnetic induction apparatus (20). The second step involves positioning the magnetic induction apparatus (20) into a subterranean environment (22). The third step involves supplying voltage waves to the magnetic induction apparatus (20) thereby inducing a magnetic field in and adjacent to the magnetic induction apparatus (20) to thermally condition the subterranean environment (22). This method and apparatus has application in the petroleum and mining industries.
