A circuit interrupter, such as that of Specification 904,125, includes operating mechanism having rollers 56 co-operating with raceways 55 in a member 54 secured to a contact-carrying crosshead 49, the rollers being carried by driving cranks 57 which are provided with gear segments 59 co-operating with a double-sided rack 60. Other modifications of the interrupter of Specification 904,125 include the provision of spring- loaded arcing contacts 35 within the fixed contacts 32, a metallic interrupting tube or chamber 108 and activated alumina filters 109.
