PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a halftone processing method which applies the parallel error diffusion. SOLUTION: A column 510 of a continuous scale image is divided into at least four continuous scale segments at a break 520. A cut filter 500 is applied to the furthest end pixel of a segment adjacent to the left of the break 520, and a normal filter 100 is applied to other pixels included in a continuous scale segment 230. Such error diffusion filters are used to process all pixels included in a specific image string in parallel to each other and to shorten the halftone processing time without deteriorating the quality of an output binary image. In this example, the data are included in a single image string and can be quickly arrayed again in such a form to increase the parallel processing speed for the SIMD(signal instruction multiple data) architecture. |
