DISPLAY PANEL

A two-dimensional display panel (10) produces a time variable image composed of light emitting pixels (52, 53, 54). The pixels (52, 53, 54) are generated by a light emitting phosphor (90) distributed within the panel (10), the pixels (52, 53, 54) radiate light in response to being excited by charging and triggering energy beams (22, 57, 32, 42, 58). The energy beams (22, 57, 32, 42, 58) are relatively invisible and may be generated by lasers or solid state diode energy sources (20, 30, 40, 55, 56). Wave guides (70-88) within the panel (10) direct the energy beams (22, 57, 32, 42, 58) to the pixels (52, 53, 54). The wave guides (70-88) may be composed of fiber optic threads and the display panel (10) comprised of a fabric of woven fiber optic threads wherein the pixels (52, 53, 54) are produced at intersections of the woven fiber optic threads.
