PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high dust collecting performance with high operation voltage and to weaken radiated electromagnetic wave noise even if spark is generated. SOLUTION: This electrostatic air cleaner is provided with an electrode system of a charging part 10 composed of a discharge wire 11 and a flat plate 12 opposed thereto and an electrode system of a dust collecting part 20 composed of a high voltage impressed flat plate 21 and a dust collecting plate 22 and spark discharging current is suppressed by the resistance of the electrodes theirselves of the discharging part and the dust collecting part. The intense of the radiated electromagnetic wave noise is remarkably suppressed and generating sound of discharge is made small preferably by imparting a distributed resistant component equal to or aboveπtimes a characteristic impedance per unit length to a characteristic impedance settled by the electrostatic capacity and the coefficient of self-induction of the electrode system by each electrode. And since the high voltage operation is enabled, dust collecting performance is improved.
