A method and apparatus for driving a power seat track mechanism which has a power seat secured thereto. The method includes the steps of providing a three- or four-brush motor having an output shaft coupled to the track mechanism, providing a battery having a first voltage polarity and a second voltage polarity, coupling the first voltage polarity to a first brush of the motor and coupling the second voltage polarity to a second brush of the motor so as to drive the output shaft in a first direction at a first speed, and coupling the first voltage polarity to the first brush and coupling the second voltage polarity to a third brush of the motor so as to drive the output shaft in the first direction at a second speed.
