PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To positively reduce the load to which the foot of a driver is subjected from a brake pedal when cars collide. SOLUTION: A lower pedal 5 is rotatably supported, by a pin 8, on the lower end of an upper pedal 4 rotatably supported on a pedal bracket 2 by a pin 6, and both the pedals 4, 5 are integrally connected by a connecting means 21 provided with a cam 22 and a cam follower 24. When usual treading force is applied to the lower pedal 5, both the pedals 4, 5 are rotated integrally, but when a heavy load is applied to the lower pedal 5 due to collision of vehicles, the connection of both the pedals by the connecting means 21 is released for the lower pedal 5 to be rotated ahead of the upper pedal 4 to reduce the load applied to the foot of a driver. At this time, since a ratchet plate 27 is engagingly locked to a ratchet pawel 29 to regulate the forward rotation of the upper pedal 4, the load is much more effectively reduced. |
