Emission reduction during IC engine switch-off

The shut off sequence for an IC engine is improved by opening the throttle valve, after the fuel injection has ceased, to enable the flow of fresh air to flush unburnt fuel into the engine and thereby into the catalyser. This ensures that the engine starts clean, without excessive emission products. After the fuel feed is shut off the engine is allowed to run for one two cycles more by delaying the switch-off of the ignition, while the throttle valve is opened for the flushing sequence. The whole process is controlled by a processor.
