PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the availability of data when a magnetic disk drive is used without exerting any influence on the operation of the system by connecting a magnetic disk drive to an input/output bus into and from which the magnetic disk driven can be inserted and extracted during system operation. SOLUTION: This system is equipped with a host computer 1, the magnetic disk drive 2 which stores data that the host computer 1 handles, the input/output bus 3 which is interposed between the host computer 1 and magnetic disk drive 2 to allow the both to input and output data and enables the magnetic disk drive 2 to be inserted and extracted during the system operation, and a console terminal 4. A system administrator detaches the magnetic disk drive 2 from the input/output bus 3 over a look at a message which is displayed on a console terminal 4 and shows that replacement is needed, and takes a backup medium 23 out of the magnetic disk drive 2. Then the backup medium 23 is loaded in a magnetic disk drive of the same type which replaces the detached magnetic disk 2. |
