PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a pattern recognition device capable of quickly and highly accurately sorting various patterns. SOLUTION: A 1st pattern recognition means 130 sorts an inputted pattern in a 1st class. As to the pattern sorted in the class requiring fine classification by the means 130, the pattern itself or a featured value obtained by numerizing the feature of the pattern and the sorted result of the means 130 are inputted to a 2nd pattern recognition means 30. The means 30 selects an optimum processing method corresponding to the sorted result of the means 130 and executes the fine classification of the pattern. Since the 2nd pattern recognition means 30 executes optimum absolute minimum processing based on the sorted result of the 1st pattern recognition means 130, highly accurate and quick pattern classification can be attained.
