A base for positioning a truncated natural tree, usually conifers, in an upright configuration for display at Christmas or on other festive occasions comprises a circular supporting plate 2, the middle of which has a hole for a tightening screw 3 which, whilst the base is in use, is also screwed into the stem end. During use, the stem end thus bears against the top side of the supporting plate with a pressure generated from the tightening screw, such that the said supporting plate can transfer tilting moments from the upright tree, induced by shock, traction force or equivalent, to the dish and hence the floor via the friction surface between the edge and the inner side of the dish. Adjustment for leanings created in connection with the commenced preparation procedures for the lowermost stem end of the tree, such as truncation of the stem and insertion of a screw, is achieved by the fact that, on the one hand, the tree can be secured in upright position with obliquely truncated stem by virtue of the supporting plate being adjustable with limited scope relative to the floor to accommodate the leanings and, at the same time, transfer the aforementioned external stresses and that, on the other hand, compensation can be made for an obliquely inserted screw by virtue of the tightening screw being able to turn in all directions about the centre of the ball radius of the intermediate piece and being able, with limited scope, to move in all directions within the spherical hole in the hub 2, 5. This produces a base which, by a simple tightening of the tightening screw 3 and adjustment of the supporting plate 2 in the dish 4, secures the tree 1 in the upright position and only requires a level stem end, truncated relatively perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the stem, with a hole bored relatively perpendicular to the said stem end. <IMAGE>
