FIELD: general mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: blank is subjected to treatment by chemical and thermal methods on side of shape-forming surface till required compressive stresses are obtained in surface layer of part which depend on depth of diffusion layer. To protect opposite side of article against diffusion of saturating elements, this side is subjected to masking by agents not liable to saturation under given conditions; use may be also made of special devices. EFFECT: improved operational characteristics of parts; reduction of time required for manufacture of parts due to simultaneous performance of shape-forming and strengthening treatment. 5 cl, 6 dwg
