Prepreg manufacture for better impregnation and process plant

In a prepreg manufacturing process an excess amount of a resin matrix is applied onto a reinforcing substrate(1) by a first die coater(3) and then heated to assist impregnation of the fibres. A second die coater(5) applies another coating of resin and the reinforcement and resin is heated a second time to convert the resin into a partially cured B-stage. Process plant comprises an uncoiling unit(15) for the reinforcement(1), a reinforcement loop store, storage tanks (7a,7b,7c) and pumps(11a,11b,11c) for resin, hardener and accelerator, a mixer(12), a first die coater(3) and first heater(4), a second die coater(5) and second heater(6), compacting rolls(8) and either a wind up roll(13) or transverse cutting unit for the finished prepreg (38).
