PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a good-quality image by keeping the characteristic of liquid developer constant even when the device is used continuously for a long time. SOLUTION: After uniformly coating the surface of a photoreceptor 2 on which an electrostatic latent image is formed with prewet liquid, the electrostatic latent image is visualized with the liquid developer 69 with which the surface of a developing belt 61 is coated. The prewet liquid and the toner included in the liquid layer of developer solvent remaining on the belt 61 which has passed through a developing area are irradiated with ions having positive polarity by an electrifying charger 631, so that the toner is flocculated near the surface layer of the belt 61 and a toner flocculating layer separated from the liquid layer is formed. The prewet liquid and the developer solvent on the belt 61 having the liquid layer and the toner flocculating layer are removed and recovered by a liquid removing means 64 so as to prevent the toner from intruding in the recovered prewet liquid and the recovered developer solvent. |
