The subject of the present invention is a lithium cell with liquid cathode including an electrolyte and a carbon-based electrode, characterised in that the said electrode is composed of a mixture of a carbon-containing material and a binder, to which an electrically active compound is added, which compound is more oxidising than the said electrolyte and whose reduction potential is greater than 3 volts, measured with respect to a lithium electrode, the proportion of the said electrically active compound lying between 10% and 80% by weight of the said mixture.
