Method for sorting waste paper

The waste paper fractions are separated on a sorting conveyor belt (2) whereby a radiation source such as a light source (4) radiates at least one area of the belt so that the waste paper pieces allotted to one fraction are detected by an evaluator (3) position-wise on the belt on the basis of the different wavelength of the reflected beam belonging to each fraction. The waste paper sections associated with the specific factor are then picked up by collectors (7) and deposited at a predetermined delivery station (13). The belt is pref. moved at a constant speed and the area detected by the radiation source is divided into several sub-areas formed as tracks parallel to the edges of the belt.
